Now THIS is one of my Candy Episodes. I think in the UK we got them a year behind the US so I would have been about 16 when I saw this episode for the first time. I had a pretty severe hospital phobia due to some childhood trauma, and the horror elements worked wonders on me. On the other hand, I loved the idea of illness as an entity Buffy would face but couldn't defeat. Little did we know how that would affect Season 5...

I‘m still watching the interview in small segments but it‘s so interesting to hear about Tim‘s creative process so thank you for posting it!

Online fandom is the best and worst thing that can happen to a show. It's fun to find other fans of something you like and interact with them. But it's inevitable that some nasty, toxic behavior will emerge over time. I hate that Minear and others involved in making shows get drug into it.

1:34:29 I was in the Supernatural fandom for years. I had watched it from the start. Then Misha Collins joined as Castiel and I shipped him & Dean right away. But oh, eventually the fandom got insanely toxic & crazy ship wars so I was like 'I need to leave this fandom or I'll just start to hate the show too & I don't want that'. 🙃 So I stopped taking part in the SPN fandom and just watched the show. It was much better and I had offline friends to talk to about the show (tho they didn't ship dean/cas lol). 🙈 In between Buffy & SPN I think I was like obssesed with Alias and shipped Sarkney haaaard. Actually it's because of my Alias obession I even heard about Supernatural. 😂 I didn't do fandom stuff for yeeeeears after SPN cuz just burned out. But then I got hooked on Teen Wolf & shipped Sterek like crazy, but boy did they fuck us over. Actual, legit queerbaiting. 🙃🙃 So eff MTV. So I gave up on that show once Derek & Stiles were gone. Jeff Davis seems good at coming up with stuff (hello, Criminal Minds I love you) but not good at keeping it going. Lol I wanted to like Wolf Pack because of SMG but I just couldn't watch the whole thing. Lol. Was not surprised at all that only lasted a ses. Then again I was like "no more fandoms! It's too exhausting!" and then not long after I goy into Shadowhunters cuz they had canon queer charachters & a couple. Then I started shipping Raphael & Simon. 🙈🙈🙈 I LOVE vampires. If I write fanfic (or in the past original stuff) somehow I always do some vampires (even in 911 fanfic 🙈). And my mind was blown they actually made Raphael asexual at the end of 2nd ses & I was like 😮😮😮😮 amazing and they weren't dicks about it & stuff. But then next ses it was obvious they didn't know what to then do with him & he just kinda faded away. There was also fandom bullshit there. So I also dropped that show and didn't finish it. 🙈 And just fandom as a whole. Didn't touch fandom stuff for a few years (except a doctor who group on facebook that's very strict bout no bs). 😂 But because the world is on fire & I had just been like in "the real world" that's depressing as hell (so much devestation all over the world & i'm a news/politics junkie) I was like I need something silly. And saw they made Buck on 911 Bi and I was like eh, what the hell, I'll check it out. 😂 And now I spend a lotta time on tumblr. I knew about the buck/eddie ship from years before but I was all not getting sucked into queerbaiting again. But I did check out Lone Star cuz canon queer couple there yay. But idk why I stopped watchin. Then I checked out ses 7 of 911 & liked it, so I watched from the start and was like 'holy hell, I love this.' And now I'm a bit obssesed 🤣🙈😌 (not with bt tho) But yeah, people say OG 911 fandom got like 110% more toxic later in ses 7 and that's a shame. 😔😔 But tbh, nothing I haven't seen before. People who ship canon ships but aren't the biggest ship in fandom can get insanely insecure & lash out at non-canon ships that are more popular. Before I'd get annoyed, but now I'm just so jaded and like none of it really matters that much so I just try and avoid the drama and have fun with my fandom friends who ship what I ship. Lol. Cuz fandom is my escape and I need the sillyness. 🙈 But yeah toxicity towards cast & crew is newer and crazy. Like yikes, don't do THAT. 😬😬😬 (Sorry for this essay xD)

34:11 I mean "crack" in fandom usually means 'oh, crazy idea like suddenly there's a talking octopus or like angels are real' or something like insane. XD or just really out of charachter. Lol. Something that wouldn't usually happen. But then some fanfic on Ao3 now has 'crack treated seriously' or whatever and so it's still crack-y but written like regular fic. Lol.

Huh. I didn't know he wrote on Lois & Clark. I LOVED that show as a kid. And X-Files. I was too much of a scaredy cat to watch much of that one tho until later. 🙈🙈 But then I REALLY got into Buffy & Angel (Buffy was my first fandom). Two of my fav shows EVER. 🥰 Kinda funny I'm so into 911 now. Lol. Well, started with Lone Star but then recently got into regular 911. 🙈 (no, I don't ship bt.) He's def not wrong about toxicity. 😬😬😬 I mean there's always been ship wars & stuff, and toxic fans but ya know, usually not towards cast & crew. That feels pretty new. I love the jab at Joss, tbh at the start. 🙈 Boy, did he disappoint me. Bleh.

Even as a teenager join first watch, I snafus read Faith as a front damaged girl who'd been repeatedly abused and harmed, the product of both neglect, and childhood abuse. And I always felt like the subtext was that he world view on men had been heavily informed by SA in her past. Granted, that was probably me "over identifying much" as Cordelia would say. Given that I was grappling with my own trauma from a childhood of abuse, that's always how I read it. And I related so deeply to Faith, her guarded nature, tendency to isolate, self sabotage and push people away, rather than rushing trust and vulnerability. I always just understood Faith. So I could also understand why she flipped to the dark side. But actually, that became sort of a lesson for me, something I needed to see unfold to really grapple with the consequences of my own trauma induced self destructive tendencies. It was a while before I did actually heal and deal with my own trauma, but Faith's arc always resonated with me. Especially because I found a surrogate father figure of my own in my track coach. The only difference is, he was a genuinely wonderful person and not evil. But I always saw myself in Faith and saw her as the kind of person I could've become if I'd let my pain and cynicism consume me instead of dealing with it. That was also why her redemption arc on Angel was also so damn meaningful to me. Anyway, point is, I always read the undertones in Faith's character as being rooted deeply in trauma.

I really love 9-1-1 Season 7. I think having Tim back as the showrunner is a blessing for us all. Can’t wait for 9-1-1 Season 8 🙌

Took me 3 days to get through this episode…

15:00 "You know, it's funny [that] I'd get the research back from the network, and it's like, man, X [a.k.a. Twitter] or... some of these online communities do not reflect AT ALL what the mainstream audiences reacting to on something like... 9-1-1, for instances." It's because the toxic fans have created multiple accounts per user in various social media platforms just to make their dissatisfaction heard. It makes them seem large in number, but they are actually not. Satisfied fans or viewers would spend time re-watching the shows (especially on streaming) or making arts/fictions out of it, instead of complaining or harassing people on social media. The ratings don't lie.

911twt and it's Fandom really split (ship war) and I feel bad for Tim because he gets used a pawn in a lot of people "proof" and gotcha moments. He gets a lot of hate / praise over every little comment or decision. Glad he stepped back for himself (but also for the fandom) it is brutally "ugly," as Tim said.

Wow...at least he knows who his true fans are.

I cherish the insight and the intelligence and the care you bring to the fandom and I will be here for all of it, whenever it comes. Even if that means I'm 80 and unsure of how the new technology works and I need my grandchildren or other generous youths to help me figure out how to access your latest offering! Other creators have come and gone in my media landscape but I come back here again and again... and again because I find your videos. in turns: thought provoking, delightful, revealing, funny, healing, comforting, challenging and so many other things I can't articulate. I started "tuning in" to your channel back in 2014 as part of a life changing love affair. That affair ended, was deeply grieved and another eventually began and there was a marriage. And a child was born. And so many other things happened large and small (like my nieces grew old enough to share in Buffyverse and we've had some delightful Buffathons and late night discussions and text chains!) and through it all your videos have been a valuable touchstone. I'm deeply grateful to you for them. So watching this video (somewhat comically 10 months after you posted it) I felt compelled to let you know that, to me, your videos are one of the things that are genuinely worth the wait.

Personally I think that buffy/angel are just too dark at times. Would I like the original color grading to be kept intact, yeah, but do I like being able to see what's on my screen? yeah...

Angel Season 5 is in my opinion, the best season of both Buffy and Angel. It's so perfect and the finale is one of the greatest ever made. If anyone is wondering whether to watch it or continue it, do it cause it's absolutely worth it.

The reason why I believe the spell the monks cast affected Joyce is because her memories are the most important. She needed to feel a pregnancy, give birth which is a massive life changing event. It would affect her physically while the Scooby's had a 4 years of memories and her dad while a parent didn't need the physical aspect and parental instinct as he was ok completely leaving. Buffy is obviously the slayer but if Joyce's memories did not feel believable then Buffy would have been able to tell . Which is why her mum when finding out the truth did not flinch in her love for Dawn.

It's a gourd. A magic gourd...

I feel what saved Jonathan was less Buffy's speech and more that she actually cared enough to try and stop him

Several things about this episode bother me, such as the absurdity of depowering a slayer in secret and locking her in with a vicious vampire to "test" her. I don't like, but understand the "test", but not the secrecy. What really nags tho, is Buffy as been training for years now in combat and weapons, and yes, the drug robs her of her slayer strength, but it shouldn't strip her of her training. She can't shoot a crossbow, (im not sure I've ever seen her actually hit her target), but she should still be able to throw a knife with accuracy or apply some martial art techniques. An herbal concoction designed to rob her of her strength shouldn't be able to remove learned skills. Also, I thought the bit with the pills was too convenient a contrivance. Why is an undead creature addicted to pills?

It seems the costumers dressed Buffy down a lot to compensate for Faith's over sexy outfits

I think the biggest flaw to the curse would be losing his soul if he ever feels happiness. As you say, returning the soul really punishes the pre-vampire person (unless they're a true psychopath and don't care about inflicting pain and death), but removing the soul after even one second of true happiness only unleashes the demon unrestrained. It's basically letting a monster loose on the world again. How is that vengeance or justice for his wrongs to release him to just go do it again. Flawed "gypsy" logic, pardon the stereotype.
